The leading credential for any Energy Auditor is the BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Certification. But what does this mean for the typical homeowner looking to add insulation to their home? To make sure that the insulation is being installed properly a home energy audit should be completed to verify the correct amount of air leakage. If the home has excessive air leakage this would cause poor performance with the insulation and in some cases could actually make problems worse. If the house is already too tight or border-line air tight, adding additional insulation could push it over the limit and cause serious indoor air quality issues and possible health problems for the occupants.

Until recently there was very little consumer education on the proper methods of home insulation, but under new building code and new laws being passed it has now become the standard.
