Does a New Home in Delmarva Really Need a Home Energy Audit?

All homes, new and old, can benefit from a home energy audit. The building codes are always changing, and just this year the code has changed requiring homes to be more energy efficient than in the previous years. Building Code Changes

The building codes were changed to require a higher standard for building homes to be more comfortable and energy efficient before the homeowner moves into the home.

What changed?

• Increase in the minimum insulation R-value (thickness rating).
• More energy efficient light bulbs need to be provided and installed.
• Tighter ducts are required.
• A change in the level of air movement allowed in a room.
•  A mechanical ventilation system may be required.

These changes are mandatory for all homes built in 2012 and for all home yet to be built in the state of Maryland.
