Defining Ductwork for Delaware and Maryland Residents
The fourth installment of the defining series will look at ductwork; how Dr. Energy Saver helps clean, test, repair, and upgrade inefficient ducts.
A homeowner can receive great benefits from simply having Dr. Energy Saver perform a ductwork checkup. We have helped many Delmarva homeowners to improve their home's comfort and efficiency by repairing ductwork. Check out this ductwork portfolio.
Leaks in your ductwork can cause your home to be uncomfortable and costly. Leaks can be caused by many different factors.
- Ducts may have been installed incorrectly.
- Air seals may have been made by duct tape.
- Buildup of dirt and dust could be forcing air out through seams.
- Old ducts may need to be replaced.
Our certified inspectors use a standard comfort and energy checkup to understand why your ducts are inefficient. During this checkup, they use a blower door test and a smoke pencil test to pinpoint the exact location of air leaks and other causes of inefficiency. They will also complete a visual test to see how dirty and dusty the ducts may be.

Did you know that duct tape was not actually made to seal ducts?
Duct tape was made during WWII to help seal ammunition cases from moisture. Its original name was “duck tape”, but was later changed to duct when contractors started to use it to seal ducts. Unfortunately, the duct tape used to seal ducts dries out and breaks down, making for a pretty awful repair job.
Dirty ducts and the use of duct tape could be causing comfort and energy losses within your home. When ducts are dirty, they are distributing unhealthy air throughout your house. When your ducts aren't sealed properly, the conditioned air escapes into your attic or crawl space depending where your ducts are located, and the outside air enters the duct to be distributed throughout your home. In other words, your home's air is unhealthy, and you're HVAC system is working overtime to pump out more and more conditioned air because it's escaping and unable to cool/heat the living space properly.
Sometimes the ducts are just too old and beyond repair, so our inspectors occasionally recommend replacing the ducts. We proudly offer a price assurance, so that you can be assured our inspectors are offering you the best price for the products you decide to purchase.
