Crawl Space Repair - What is Efflorescence?
Efflorescence, which means to "flower out" in french, is a reaction that happens when water is coming through the concrete. The minerals in the concrete dissolve in the water traveling through and leave behind the white chalky powder when the water has evaporated. Often confused with mold or other microbial growth, efflorescence is not alive and is harmless unless ingested. It is simply mineral residue.
