HVAC System Seems to Run Constantly
This Federalsburg, MD homeowner said it seemed like their HVAC ran CONSTANTLY! During a no-cost, no-obligation inspection by one of our Home Comfort Specialists they found that a main flex duct had become unattached from the collar on the trunk duct. Even though "duct" tape is great for a lot of different things it actually is not recommended for duct work. The constant change in temperature either within the duct work or even in the surrounding room the duct is placed in causes changes in the tacky, tape side. It eventually loses it's ability to hold and stick to other products.
Flex Duct has Fallen Down
This crawl space suffers from a moisture problem due to an open vent. When the moisture collects in the insulation it becomes heavy and falls down. That is what has happened to this flex duct that has been wrapped in fiberglass insulation.
Insulation Covering HVAC Supply Duct
Because of moisture in this crawl space the insulation has begun to fall down. This particular piece has fallen down directly in front of the supply duct. This homeowner has spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars, depending on how long it has been this way, on wasted energy. The supply is blowing air directly into the insulation and not reaching it's goal which means it is just running for no reason.
Flex Duct Collar
This is a closer look at the collar where the flex duct had fallen off. This is the return duct. The return duct pulls air in as the supply duct pushes it out. Since this is pulling air in without a duct attached to it it is pulling in dirt and cobwebs from the crawl space along with any hidden allergens or spores in the air. Therefore, the homeowner and any other occupants of this residency are breathing in unhealthy air.
