Crawl Space Encapsulation in Salisbury, MD
Challenge
The owner of this Salisbury , MD home had complaints of cold floors and odors coming up from the crawl space. The wet conditions in the crawl space had caused the fiberglass batting to collect moisture. When batted fiberglass becomes wet it emits an foul smell. The more moisture it retains the heavier it becomes and it will begin to fall down thus creating cold floors to the room(s) above.
Solution
Our Dr. Energy Saver Delmarva team knew exactly what to do to solve this homeowner's comfort issues. They removed all of the old insulation to get rid of the smell and then began the encapsulation process. Drainage matting was laid out on the leveled dirt floor first creating a barrier between the earth and the soon to be conditioned area. After the drainage matting was installed they laid down CleanSpace 10 mil liner over it. This will keep the crawl space from having excessive moisture in it. To insulate the crawl space the team installed SilverGlo foam board insulation to the walls. To take it even a more efficient step further they air sealed the rim joists to eliminate lost energy from drafts resulting in a healthier, more efficient, insulated and conditioned crawl space.
