Underinsulated Attic
Upon our whole home inspection the Home Comfort Advisor found that the attic lacked adequate insulation in some areas and none in others.
Where is the Insulation?
This is just one of the large areas in this attic that has no insulation at all. Our rulers were put into place to indicate how much insulation should be present. Right now the R-Value is at zero. For a home located where this one is the minimum should be R-38.
Air Sealing the Floor of the Attic
Air sealing shouldn't stop at the top. Dr. Energy Saver Delmarva inspects every inch of an area and determines where air sealing should be done. In this home air sealing needed to be done in the floor of the attic as well. The crew sealed every gap, crack and crevice including ones around light fixtures and electrical outlets concealed in the attic for use in the rooms below.
SilverGlo Insulation
SilverGlo is a rigid foam board insulation complete with radiant barrier. The reflective sides of the SilverGlo will help keep unwanted heat out of the attic when the sun beats down on the house as well as help keep paid for heat inside during the colder months.
Cellulose Insulation
Once the crew had air sealed the entire attic and added SilverGlo to the walls it was time to install the insulation on the floor of the attic. They installed TruSoft Cellulose insulation to a whopping R-60! All of these upgrades will significantly cut down on this home's heating and cooling costs.
