We had a lot to do inside this 1964 Garrison Colonial style suburban home in Claymont, DE. Here is a partial list of the work Lawson Home Services performed and the measures that were installed: Two attics: remove the nasty old R11 fiberglass insulation; air-seal the floors of the cleaned attic; and replace fiberglass insulation with a cozy 17" of cellulose insulation R60. Air seal the old HVAC metal ductwork which was extremely leaky with the revolutionary Aeroseal™ process. Insulate and air seal between the attic over the attached garage and the second story rooms of the main house. Insulate and air seal overtop the stairwell ceiling. Construct and install a special air-sealed and insulated attic scuttle access.

1964 Garrison Colonial Style Home

This is a quintessential example of a Garrison Colonial Style Home built in the 1960s and 70s. Notice how the second story overhangs the first and the attached garage with its lower roof and attic.

Penetrations of the attic floor

It may not look like much of an air leak - but you have to realize air from the lower floors is drawn through the wall cavities up into the attic where it vanishes to the outside through the attic/roof ventilation. All these holes add up to a big loss of air the homeowner has paid to heat and cool.

Stairwell Ceiling

We are looking down into the area of the attic directly above the stairwell leading from the first to the second story of this home. A sealed cap will be placed overtop this stairwell overtop of which the 17" R60 TruSoft™ cellulose will be blown.

Clean attic floor air-sealing

The old insulation has been removed for this attic so that Lawson Home Service's crew can properly seal all the places where air is sucked into the attic form the rooms below through the hollow wall cavities.
