Unsealed Drywall Tops
These little cracks may not look like much to the untrained eye, but infrared camera images show just how much they contribute to loss of conditioned air, which makes its way into the attic up through the wall cavities and then escapes through these cracks that run the entire length of all walls. That adds up to huge energy losses.
Infrared camera Image
The Infrared camera sees differences in temperature. Where its most yellow the temperature is at 81.8 degrees. Where its the darkest blue the temperature is 59.5 degrees. Ideally all surfaces of the interior walls should be the same as the room temperature. But this picture shows air leaks and areas within the wall cavities that are poorly insulated.

The IR cam can almost see "through" the wall cavity to reveal places where the insulation is either missing or is otherwise failing to properly insulate the room. This results in cold drafty rooms that are difficult to heat and cool.
